Where you look you will end up

You get what you focus on…I am trying to learn how to ride a horse or rather stay on when a horse is doing it’s thing and I am merely a passenger. This was going fine and my teacher who is also my girlfriend (this has it’s perks) felt I was ready to graduate on to jumping.

So off we went with a group of 50 others across the mountains of Wicklow. Through the very same fields where movies such as Braveheart and Alexander were filmed. It was going great. Comfortable cantering, and even galloping. Then the first jumps came in to view.

Voice in my head, let’s call him Lestor- “What are you doing, you have never done this before, you are in real trouble, just hold on”. Th enext thing I knew I was being catapulted over the horse’s head and sailed like a human projectile through the sky to land like a bag of sand on the grass. Lestor had a field day- “Told you, what did I tell you, you big donkey, but you wouldn’t listen, and I bet you are going to get up and try again, big donkey”

Afterwards my teacher and I sat down and we discussed why I had fallen off. The answer was enlightening. Where did you look she asked?, well I was kind of looking down at the jump I offered. Ah, said my teacher, that explains it. And here comes such a nugget of wisdom.

“When it comes to horse jumping you get exactly what you focus on, so if you focus on a spot past the jump and look up and hold it in your line of sight you will be fine but if you look down as you are coming in to the jump you will fall”

Jumping a fence on the back of a horse is very much a metaphor for life. We get what we focus upon.

What do you focus upon?, Do you focus on having a good life and all you are thankful for and would like in it, or are you focused on what you do not have?, Are you clearly focused on what you want in the future and are planning how to get it?

How will you know what you are focusing on? , Two things will tell you. Your language and your thought pattern.
