Ireland to host the 2011 Single Speed World Championships
October 25th, 2010 by Tony GriffinYes it is official. Ireland win the bid to host the 2011 Single Speed World Championships having secured the honor at the recent 2010 World Championships in Rotatrua, New Zealand.
What is Single Speed I hear you ask. Think of when you were a child and the bike you cycled. A single-speed bicycle is a type of bicycle with a single gear ratio. These bicycles are without derailer gears or other methods for varying the gear ratio of the bicycle.
In the most recent championships in New Zealand, Ireland saw off Italy, Canada, Australia and finally defeated South Africa to win the right to host the finals in 2011. The good news is our business Sports ai fronted the bid and sent our most able athlete, Tomas Madigan to lead the charge on Ireland’s behalf. This was a wise move given that he won the final as a result of winning a vertical bungee jump. You see Single Speed is alternative, wild and huge fun in every way. And it is the newest sport sweeping the planet.
How is it alternative….. OK, the winner of the race each year receives a tattoo, everyone dresses up for the race and the water stations serve beer. And as they say in Single Speeds, “if you don’t want the tattoo then don’t win!. Need I say anymore.
We are delighted to represent Ireland on the world stage by hosting what is going to be a crazy fun time in 2011. And let’s admit it, who does not like having a ridiculous amount of fun on a bike. And the most fun sport in the world is coming to Ireland….get ready…Single Speed is coming.
