Hurling
Hurling
I grew up in a small country village called Ballyea in the West of Ireland county of Clare. Growing up I loved sport and most of all Hurling. This is where I felt good, felt lost in time. Over the years I took my game more seriously and at the age of 14 joined my first Clare team. I went on to play every age group with Clare until I was brought in to the senior squad by Clare’s most successful manager, the mercurial Ger Loughnanne in 2000.
From 2000 to 2009 I played for the Clare Senior Hurling team and learned much about myself, overcoming challenges and dismantling doubt and fear to be as good as you can be. Whether the crowd watching was 80000 or 800 I always loved to try and do something special on the field. Sometimes it worked, other times it did not. But through trying I found that we learn most about ourselves. Hurling was a great teacher.
