7000km

These are videos recorded four months before we started pushing the pedals and cycling 7000km in our bid to raise €1 million for various cancer charities doing incredible work for others. It is worth noting that at this stage we had no bikes, no RV, a tiny support group, no funding, no food and had not yet met Lance and all our new friends at Livestrong. At this stage all we had was a dream and HUNGER.

7000 km Ride for the Cure

In 2005 my father passed away from a form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure. I decided to take a break from the university I was studying in Canada and devote myself for the 2006 season to Hurling. I think subconsciously it was something to take my mind off the grief. I went on to win an All Star, a goal I had first written on my wall when I was 13.

The morning after receiving the award I decided to retire from the game of Hurling to follow an idea I had been mulling over and developing for over two months. I would ride a bicycle across Canada and Ireland and try and raise funds for cancer charities.

Some amazing things happened along the way and formed part of my 2010 book called Screaming at the Sky. This book went on to be a N0.1 Best Seller and Ireland and was shortlisted for both the Energize Irish Sports Book of the Year and the William Hill Irish Sports Book of the Year.

You can get Screaming at the Sky in all good bookshops and online at Amazon.
